Taste of small town America

Yesterday, we went to the Ransom County Fair, taking me back to fond memories of my childhood. We moved a lot, but most the time we lived in small towns. When I was 11 we moved to Illinois for about a year and the big thing was "The Corn Festival" in August, then we had the fair in September. There were rides, and fair foods, and tons of corn.

Yesterday. I was taken back to all of that. Dh, the kids, and I watch the cattle competition for 4-H and FFA, and afterwards we ate a free dinner of pork sanwiches, fresh corn on the cob, chips, and german chocolate cake. We walked around the games and rides. We walked in the barns and saw the pigs, chickens, rabbits, goats, and lambs, and cows. We walked around the expo center and looked at all the 4-H projects-the homemade baked goods, jellies, and jams, the crocheted dollies, handmade quilts and other sewing projects, the projects on the crops of North Dakota along with other projects. It was nostalgic....it was the taste of small town Amercia...and it's starting to really draw me in. ;) (Actually, I really would love it, if our house in TX would sell, and I know I have something to live in that's warm here for the winter)

I don't think most people in America, get the real taste of small town America. They don't get or appreciate the small town life. They don't know how important small town America is to the rest of the United States. Unfortunately, it seems it becomes less and less important as we continue to give jobs away to foreign countries. :(

As I get older I understand the meaning of small town America and the heart of America. Big city life isn't the same as living in a tight knit community of a small town. Yeah, I have to drive a long way to the grocery store, to homeschool community events, etc, but when I get to think about the simple life and building relationships with honest, hardworking Americans, it makes it all worth while!

Blessings until next time!

oh no, not that!

Yesterday, Joe Bug was toasting waffles. He got the syrup bottles out...both are empty....Belle says, "You might have to get the sugarfree syrup crap out" and I reply, "Oh no, not that!"

My apologies to the language...but it was darn funny. Her daddy calls it that. He hates it, but has to use it now...because of the type 2 diabetes.

Talk of the town....

Did I tell you how we're the talk of the town? or rather we were? LOL...
When dh pulled the boat onto the property, the folks around wondered if we knew something they didn't...lol....the boat is awfully big for around here and they did have that big flood this year. So now as we meet the area people, we just say we're the folks with the boat...and of course they all know who we are! LOL

I forgot to tell you, we aren't technically "in" town so we aren't part of the population. We live about 3 miles away. oh well....

Population 27 umm +5?

The population in the "town" we live in is 27 and I guess now +5 with the Santana's in town! LOL...

Town consists of a saloon...there's an old post office/grocery store, but they closed down a year or so ago because there wasn't enough mail going through. There's a campground, a one-room schoolhouse-also closed down a few years ago, and a museum. I think that's about it. There's far more cows, horses, and fields than there are people or buildings around here.

North Dakota is rather flat on the east side. There's the start of the Black Hills on the west side of the state...but where we're at it's mostly flat. Occasionally, you see a few hills and some trees, especially near a river. The big river is the Red River. The Red River runs from here all the way down to TX. I didn't realize until I moved here, that it runs up instead of downstream. Apparently that's a big deal here. (LOL...not sure why.) There's mostly grasslands. That's where we are at...the Sheyenne National Grasslands.

There's lots of ducks, geese, pheasants, grouse, turkeys and other wild birds here. There's also deer and coyotes. The property that we are on has all of these...which makes dh smile. :) He's looking forward to hunting season...needless to say. ;)

Can't think of anything else to say about our neck of the woods...ummm, I mean prairie...

My Little Artist...

Belle created this picture on computer the other day. I was quite impressed since it was really her first time to try the computer paint. :)

my super star!!!

"Bill, Strange things are afoot a the Circle K" (from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures)
Um in this case in Fargo...lol... and really they aren't strange things, but GOD things.

Dh's job has been really interesting. By trade he is a piping designer and computer designs things like refineries and power plants. Since we've been here in Fargo, dh's job hasn't been doing that. He's been trying to get clients for the company and been a spokesperson for them.
Dh has found tremendous favor with the company and with many of the clients. :)

Recently, the Washington Post called the governor of ND and asked why the state has one of the lowest unemployment in the US. The governor said that there are several companies hiring, and suggested calling dh's company. When the Washington Post called the company, they wanted to do some interviews with some of the new employees. Dh was one of them!!! How cool is that?

Today, dh got to go make an ad for new recruits and interns for the company. While he was doing the taping, he did it in one take!!! The crew was impressed and called him One take Charlie! lol He was also complimented on his voice and was asked to narrate the whole video!

We know this is where GOD wants us, even though we miss TX! It's exciting to see what GOD is doing here and with our lives!

Blessings until next time!

Sunday Sing-Along

I'm posting this early because tomorrow we will be at First Assembly of God in Fargo, to help kick off their vacation bible school. They are having a big carnival. Dh will be helping with grilling burgers, and I'll be helping in the kitchen. It should be a fun way for us to get to know people!
